Steroids and Pregnancy

April 14, 2013
So I was injected with Decordex Friday afternoon. The jab was a bit painful. But tolerable. I headed straight home instead of attending my weekly antenatal class because doc said I needed to rest more.

I didn't feel anything strange at first. Went to bed about 11pm then woke up at 2am. Then I couldn't sleep anymore. No matter how much I try to. Sleep just wasn't cooperating. By the time I feel asleep it was about 5:30 and I was up again at 6:30. Major headache afterwards. When I went to take a bath I noticed my face was reddish and a bit swollen. My boobs were a  little bruised too.

The 2nd jab was wow. Clearly more painful that I had to sit for a good 10-15 minutes before I could have the strength to go home. I was so dizzy on my way home and quickly dozed off as soon as I reached home for a good 2-2.5 hours.

Last night, went to bed around 11pm and again I was up by 2am. I was tossing and turning and waking up every hour until 6am. It was only then that I managed to have 2 hours straight sleep. Oh my eye bags.

I was still feeling bloated today. My face still reddish and swollen. Slowly recovering though.

Spoke to my sister, and she mentioned the effects of the steroids on her were the exact opposite. It was like a happy drug. She was injected at 32 weeks also, and her son was born full term. Stronger than the rest of the kids in the nursery.  Her second kid, she also just injected with steroid. She came out 34-36 weeks and was super healthy.

I'm crossing my fingers that all is good for me too!

I'm not sure if the steriods you're talking about is celestone its given to moms whose babies might be born premature.. and if so then don't worry if you finish the regimen the baby usually does well :)
